The five questions test

A business website has seconds to answer five questions: What do you do? Who do you do it for? Why should I trust you? Why should I choose you? What should I do next? Open your homepage and answer them aloud, as a stranger would. Most underperforming websites fail at question one.

The usual barriers

  • Vague messaging — "innovative solutions for your business" tells a buyer nothing. Specificity converts: what, for whom, what outcome.
  • Buried calls-to-action — if contacting you requires scrolling, hunting or a form with nine fields, most visitors won't.
  • No trust signals — no real photos, no client names, no results, no address. Anonymous websites feel risky.
  • Slow or broken mobile experience — over half your visitors are on phones; a frustrating mobile site silently discards them.
  • Wrong traffic — pages ranking for informational queries when you need buyers, because content was never mapped to search intent.

Fix before you redesign

A full redesign isn't always the first step. Messaging, CTA placement, mobile performance and trust content can often be improved on the existing site — cheaper and faster. A structured audit tells you which situation you're in.
